The NOVA Workforce Board (NOVA WB) addresses the workforce investment needs of Silicon Valley by directing and guiding NOVA, a workforce development agency sponsored by the City of Sunnyvale, and CONNECT!, a collaborative of workforce development organizations. Through its strategic initiatives, the Board works to promote economic opportunity and shared prosperity.

NOVA WB members from leading edge Silicon Valley companies bring diverse and expert opinions that foster new and better ways of serving the community. These Board members help NOVA to create strategic alliances with businesses, the workforce development community, and other critical stakeholders.

The NOVA WB evolved in 2000 from the NOVA Private Industry Council in response to the Federal Workforce Investment Act (WIA). The Board serves the cities of Sunnyvale, Milpitas, Mountain View, Palo Alto, Los Altos, Cupertino, and Santa Clara.

NOVA has been providing workforce development solutions to businesses and individuals since 1983. It has become a national model for building an effective workforce system that benefits both businesses and job seekers. In 1997 NOVA joined with more than 30 employment and training organizations to form CONNECT!, a collaborative providing one-stop services to businesses and job seekers in Silicon Valley.

In 2006, the NOVA Workforce Board endorsed an exciting new statewide initiative, the California's EDGE campaign, to raise awareness of workforce development as a critical public policy issue in the Governor's statewide policy agenda and to forge solutions that will positively impact the economic prosperity of businesses, workers and communities. The NOVA Board encourages local organizations to review this initiative's position paper and to also endorse this campaign by going to www.californiaedgecampaign.org.
